Why Invest in Numeric and Grand Prix Plates

Numeric Plates were first issued in 1906 and represent unrivalled exclusivity – the Gold Standard. They distinctively epitomise a special piece of South Australian automotive history. The plates were displayed on prestige vehicles of the time by prominent and notable South Australian families, whilst the majority were still commuting on horse and carriage.

Numeric plates are limited and tightly held, noting that multiple plates are owned by sole individuals and families. Typically, the lower the digits, the more valuable the plates are.

South Australia’s first time hosting the international Formula One Grand Prix event was in 1985 and to celebrate the event, the Grand Prix office and the Registrar organised to issue The Black Series Grand Prix plates extending from ‘GP 1’ to ‘GP 199’. In subsequent years, a hand full of white edition Grand Prix plates were offered to the market with fully transferrable, Class Specific rights. They are a rare commemoration of South Australia’s Formula One Grand Prix involvement, and add a distinctive touch to any motor vehicle.

Numeric and Grand Prix Plates have undoubtedly and exponentially grown in demand and demonstrated strong capital growth throughout the years, becoming one of the rarest collectibles and most exclusive status symbols.

In addition, once the 10% transfer fee is paid to the South Australian Government, there are no ongoing costs incurred or maintenance required in comparison to alternative investment asset classes such as property or shares.

Whether the limited edition plates are for distinguished motoring enthusiasts seeking unparalleled prestige, or put aside as a strategic asset in a diversified investment portfolio, they will be an heirloom of prosperity for generations to come.
